Selling with Caramel Vehicle Checkout
Once you’ve settled on price, checkout should only take a few minutes.
Vehicle: Confirm information about your KSL buyer and vehicle information.
Identity: Safety is at the top of our list for a reason. Upload your ID and a selfie.
Title: Upload images of title, VIN and odometer reading.
Payment: Link the bank account where you’d like to receive payment. You’ll receive 50% payment as soon as Caramel receives the title.
Signature: Time to sign all the required documents. Now we will be able to transfer the vehicle title to your KSL buyer.

Once a price is accepted, checkout should only take a few minutes.

Financing: You’ll have the option to get approved for a loan through some top national banks. Skip this step if you want to pay another way.
Protection: Save money on unexpected repairs or breakdowns with this optional vehicle protection contract.
Insurance: You’ll need coverage before signing any documents. Use existing insurance or add a policy for your vehicle now.
Transport: Choose how to get your vehicle. Pick it up from the seller or have it delivered to your driveway.
Title and vehicle verification: Before you sign anything, we’ll quickly verify the seller’s title and important vehicle information. We’ll also confirm if you owe any fees or taxes.
Payment: Link your desired bank account and review the owed amount. You’re almost done!
Signature: Time to sign all the required documents. Now we will be able to register your vehicle and transfer the title to you.
FAQs
Will I be charged a fee?
Possibly. There are fees that may be charged to both buyer and seller depending on which option is selected.

- Self-registration: $95 fee for title transfer and self-registration at the DMV
- Standard: $195 fee with payment in full or financing through a Caramel lender, standard DMV title transfer and registration
- Advanced: $295 fee if used EV tax credit, 3rd party financing, custom DMV requirements
- Other DMV options: $99+ (adding 2nd person to title, applying for specialty plates, registering vehicle to business/trust, transferring existing plates)
- Title and registration fee: $100 if buyer wants Caramel to register
- Instant payment: only available if total due at signing is less than $25,000 with 0.75% fee up to $187.50

- Standard: $0 if title is in the seller’s name, no outstanding vehicle loan, vehicle more than $1,000
- Advanced: $95 if title not in seller’s name (LLC, etc.), outstanding vehicle loan, vehicle less than $1,000

Can I cancel my sale?
You may click the Cancel button until the vehicle is delivered to the buyer or transport company. Sellers will be charged a $250 fee if they select Cancel after a buyer has signed their paperwork.
What is Plaid and how is it used?
Caramel partners with Plaid to provide secure electronic payments with you. Caramel won’t be able to access any of your bank account information when you use Plaid. To set up payments, Plaid will guide you through connecting your bank login information. Plaid will then send you a small deposit to verify connection with your bank account.
Will Caramel charge a surcharge credit card fee?
Yes. There is a surcharge fee on all transaction amounts when using a credit card.
Will I be refunded if the buyer or seller cancels?
If a transaction is canceled before a buyer or transporter receives the car, you will receive a full refund within 7-10 business days. If the car is already picked up, the sale cannot be canceled.
How will I be paid?
During the Payment step, you will connect your preferred bank account to Caramel’s partner Plaid. This will allow quick, secure authentication and payments.
When do I need to have payments initiated in order for me to be cleared that same day?
You must submit your Same Day ACH by noon Pacific time on a business day.
What is a surcharge fee?
This is an additional fee added to transactions when customers use a credit card for payments. Surcharge fees will either be a fixed amount or a percentage of the transaction totals. Surcharge fees cannot exceed 4%.
When will I be paid?
You will be paid the first half of your payment as soon as your title or vehicle is delivered. As soon as both are delivered, and all final paperwork processed, you will receive the rest of your payment.
Who is my lender?
Caramel will provide a list of large national banks to choose from and show that specific bank on the approval screen.
How can I make payments on my loan after receiving my car?
Your lender will send a letter to help you get started. You’ll be provided with options to set up autopay, make your monthly payments and look over your account information.
Do I pay taxes and fees or can they be financed?
Taxes and fees will be included in your total financed amount, and you’ll see the final loan numbers in your Price Breakdown before payments are set up.
Will there be a hard credit check when I submit my application?
Yes. A hard credit check will happen as soon as you click I AGREE on the lending application page. You will see financing estimates before being given the option to accept or decline.
What information is needed to get a loan estimate?
In the loan estimator, enter your desired down payment amount, loan term and an estimated credit score. You’ll then see estimated monthly payments.
What if I don’t have good enough credit?
No loans are guaranteed, but some banks provide loans to customers with credit issues.
What requirements must I meet to be approved for financing?
Caramel lending partners will review and approve your application based on parameters such as credit score, credit history or income.
Can I pay off my loan early?
Yes, there are no penalties for completing payments early.
Is financing required?
No. Financing is optional. You can simply click Skip Financing and pay for your vehicle with funds from your own bank account.
Can I reapply for financing if I was declined?
You cannot reapply in the same transaction, but you may reapply under a new transaction. We suggest waiting 30 days so any profile changes will not affect your approval process with lenders.
Is insurance required?
No. Simply click Skip Insurance to use insurance you already have. However, you must show proof of insurance before you’ll be allowed to sign any documents.
Is insurance provided through Caramel or separate providers?
Caramel will connect you to over 100 different carriers. Each carrier will have different plans.
What is Property Damage Liability Coverage?
This property damage liability pays for property damage caused to someone else. It is mandated by law in Utah.
What is Physical Damage Coverage?
This is sometimes known as Comprehensive and Collision coverage. It will cover damage to your vehicle from an accident or physical objects such as medians or curbs. It can also cover damages to your vehicle from storms, theft or vandalism.
How do I get an insurance ID?
Once you’ve completed the Insurance step, you’ll be emailed an Insurance ID card and policy details.
Can I add other cars to my insurance policy?
Yes. You can call an insurance agent and they will discuss updated quotes for additional cars and household members.
What is Personal Injury Protection?
Also known as PIP insurance, this is a no-fault insurance policy that is required in Utah. It pays medical expenses and sometimes lost wages or other damages.
What is Liability Coverage?
This will cover accidents that are your fault and is required by law in most states. This pays for bodily injury you cause to someone else, not injuries you or your family receive.
How does identity verification work?
Both buyer and seller must verify identity before transactions can begin. Buyers will need a driver’s license and sellers will need any government ID. You’ll need to be able to take a selfie with a smartphone or computer to confirm your identity.
Do I need a driver’s license?
Yes, you’ll need to provide a U.S. government issued driver’s license to proceed with checkout.
Do I need to give you my phone number?
Yes, a U.S. based phone number is required.
What is protection with Caramel?
This is our vehicle service contract, Caramel Care. It’s similar to an extended warranty and will protect your car against costly unforeseen repairs or accidents.
Can I cancel Caramel Care?
Yes. You may cancel your plan at any time and will receive a refund for the unused portion of your plan.
Who do I contact for questions about Caramel Care?
Go to the Previous Transactions section on your Dashboard. Find your vehicle and click Caramel Care. You’ll be able to find Caramel Care partner details and contact information to ask questions.
Is protection required?
No. You have the option to click Skip Protection.
My car is still covered under the manufacturer warranty. Will Caramel Care cover me?
Your manufacturer’s warranty will be good until it expires. At that point Caramel Care can take over and may offer to cover any repairs your manufacturer’s warranty does not cover.
How will financing work with Protection add-ons?
You’ll usually be able to finance your Protections with your financed monthly payments. You can also finance through separate lenders.
After I sign, where can I see my documents?
You will get an email containing each document you signed. You can also access them anytime in the Previous Transaction section.
What happens if I fill out the forms incorrectly?
Contact Caramel’s support team, and you’ll be able to receive a new form.
How do I know which documents I am required to sign?
Buyers and sellers will automatically be given all required documents to sign. There will be additional documents for buyers to sign based on optional selections.
What if I don’t have my vehicle’s title?
You will need to apply for a duplicate title through your DMV before you can proceed.
I received my temporary registration, when does it expire?
Your temporary registration will be valid for 40 days.
What if the title is not in my name?
You will need the title to be transferred to your name. This proves to the DMV that you are the rightful owner and prevents delays in the Caramel paperwork process.
When will I receive my registration and license plates?
Each state is different, but it shouldn’t take longer than 40-60 business days. You will receive license and registration from the DMV.
As a seller, should I give my title to the buyer?
No. Never personally hand over your title to the buyer or transport company. Caramel will provide secure transfer of title to the buyer.
What if the car is being picked up by a transport company?
The transport company should always do an inspection. They will also ask you to sign a bill of lading to record any damages the car has.
What do I need to bring with me when I drop off the vehicle?
Remove all your personal belongings from the car. Leave keys, manuals and any car equipment needed. Do not bring the car title with you, Caramel will take care of this.
